Rachel Rose is the author of six books, including The Dog Lover Unit: Lessons in Courage from the World’s K9 Cops, which was shortlisted for the 2018 Arthur Ellis award for best non-fiction crime book. Her poetry collection, Marry and Burn, was longlisted for the Governor General's Literary Award, and her story collection, The Octopus Has Three Hearts, was longlisted for the Giller Prize.

A former fellow at The University of Iowa’s International Writing Program, she was Poet Laureate of Vancouver from 2014-2017. Her work received a 2014 and 2016 Pushcart Prize and her short fiction also won the Bronwen Wallace Award from The Writers’ Trust. Inspired by Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter, Rachel's debut novel, The Scarlet Daughter, is forthcoming from Blackstone in the US and Douglas & McIntyre in Canada.

In her free time, she writes for the Substack magazine Desperate Writer, and can also be found walking the woods or beaches around Vancouver or discussing books with her daring and delightful book club, Double Trouble.
